SALIM/ SARAOCHIM SALIM (Medan, 1908 – Paris, 2008)
Born in Medan, North Sumatra, on 3 September 1908. In 1919 he went to the Netherlands, then in 1928 to Paris, France. There he met Fernand Leger whom he studied painting with and continued to study at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiére from 1929 to 1932. He is an amazing artist who has maintained his social beliefs and ideals throughout his long life, for the belives that artists will never die. His life and artistry are documented in the books Pelukis Salim (1983) and Salim: Pelukis Indonesia di Paris (2003). Since 1948, Salim has held several solo exhibitions in France, the Netherlands, Switzerlands, Belgium and Japan. He held several solo exhibition in Indonesia since 1952. He received many awards from the France government as well as other International awards such the Festival International de Paris-Sud (1971), The National Prize of the International Exhibition at Cagnes Sur-Mer (1972) and Medeille d’Argent of the Festival International de Paris-Sud (1973). He continues painting and lives in Paris until he passed away in on 13 October 2008.
IRFAN (Bukittinggi, West Sumatra 1972)
M. Irfan was born in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra 1972. M. Irfan is included in 51 members of the young artists from West Sumatra that recently held a group exhibition under the theme of Panorama. His works illustrate beautiful landscape and seascape that captivate his interest in choosing theme of his painting.
