TATO KASTAREJA, 2020
This work, depicts my experience of seeing my neighbour every day. He is a scavenger of used goods. At his house, I can see the scattered cans that have just been unloaded from their sacks. I approached him to chat about Covid-19 plaguing Indonesia and even the world and me.
Reflecting on how persistent he is every day to make a living for the sake of his family. Feelings of empathy and the concern that in the midst of Covid, he continues to walk down the road looking for used goods the whole day till 17:00 WIB. When I visited his house while telling stories about Covid, I saw a pile of used beverage cans scattered. I spontaneously took photos of these interesting cans. Then I bought up to 3 sacks of these cans, without offering and paid for it. He was very happy when he received the money from me. Suddenly his wife came and he gave the money to his wife with his eyes glazed with tears.
Tears dripped upon receiving the money. Maybe it’s gratitude to Allah who has given his sustenance. From there I was inspired, which I later paid off as the painting that I gave the title “Diantara Dilematika Jaman”. It illustrates that we have to remind and protect each other that Corona Virus continues to spread and who knows how long it will end and still we have to keep zealously to reach gold in life.
